FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What type of laser is used for hair removal?
Our office uses the DSL by Syneron, which utilizes both laser energy and radio frequency energy to selectively target the hair follicle.
Why is this laser better than the other lasers for hair removal?
It has two energy sources, which can selectively target the hair follicle while minimizing unwanted side effects, such as superficial burns to the skin. It is effective for patients with light or dark skin tones.
What kind of results can I expect?
The total number of visits varies from patient to patient. Most people achieve satisfactory clearance after 5 or 6 treatments but individual results depend on medical and genetic factors. Lighter and finer hair may require more visits than darker and coarser hair.
How frequently do I need treatments?
The laser target hair, which is in the active phase of growth, so visits, should be made every 6-8 weeks. Shaving is permitted between visits.
Does the treatment hurt?
The sensation is often described as a "snapping" feeling and you may feel warmth or a tingling sensation for a short time afterward. A cooling tip on the laser head along with an external cooling device is used to minimize any discomfort.
Is it safe to tan while undergoing hair removal?
Patients should avoid tanning the area 2 weeks before treatment and a few days following the treatment. Deeply tanned skin should be treated 4-6 weeks after sun exposure.
Is laser hair removal permanent?
There is currently no hair removal method that can provide permanent hair removal. After several laser hair removal treatments, you should experience a substantial reduction in the amount of hair and when the hair does grow back it will often be finer and lighter.
