DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURES

Arteriograms
An arteriogram is a diagnostic procedure that helps determine the precise location of vascular problems. It is performed in a hospital and includes an x-ray of arteries after they have been injected with a special dye. The procedure itself is painless, but some may feel a slight burning sensation when the dye is injected.

Ultrasounds
An ultrasound is a painless procedure whereby high frequency sound waves are emitted to form images on a television monitor. This procedure is used to diagnose a variety of vascular problems including carotid artery, abdominal aneurysm, deep vein thrombosis, and lower extremity artery problems. Ultrasounds are non-invasive and are performed at our Hamden location.

SURGICAL PROCEDURES
Sometimes, vascular problems require surgical intervention. Four conditions that most often result in surgery are aneurysmal disease, carotid artery disease, peripheral artery disease and renal artery disease. Specialized patient care plans and clinical protocols are created for each patient. Your doctor will thoroughly explain the procedure to you, and also review what to expect before and after surgery.

Angioplasty
This surgical procedure involves the insertion of a catheter with a small balloon on its tip. The balloon is inserted into an artery that has been blocked or narrowed. It is inflated and deflated several times to open the blockage before being removed.

Vein Removal
In certain cases of varicose veins, a surgical vein removal procedure may be required. Several incisions are made to take out sections or an entire piece of vein. Recovery may include bandages, elevation of legs, elastic stockings and exercise as prescribed by your doctor.

TREATMENT PROCEDURES

Sclerotherapy
Sclerotherapy is commonly used to treat varicose and spider veins. It involves chemical injections to treat damaged veins. For your convenience, sclerotherapy is an office procedure that is safe and effective, and requires minimal recovery time.
